Surah Al-Alaq, Ayah 7 (96:7)

اَنۡ رَّاٰهُ اسۡتَغۡنٰىؕ ۝٧

English translation (Pickthall)

That he thinketh himself independent!

Page 604

وَالتِّيۡنِ وَالزَّيۡتُوۡنِۙ ۝١

95:1By the fig and the olive,

وَطُوۡرِ سِيۡنِيۡنَۙ ۝٢

95:2By Mount Sinai,

وَهٰذَا الۡبَلَدِ الۡاَمِيۡنِۙ ۝٣

95:3And by this land made safe;

لَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا الۡاِنۡسَانَ فِىۡۤ اَحۡسَنِ تَقۡوِيۡمٍ ۝٤

95:4Surely We created man of the best stature

ثُمَّ رَدَدۡنٰهُ اَسۡفَلَ سَافِلِيۡنَۙ ۝٥

95:5Then we reduced him to the lowest of the low,

اِلَّا الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ فَلَهُمۡ اَجۡرٌ غَيۡرُ مَمۡنُوۡنٍؕ ۝٦

95:6Save those who believe and do good works, and theirs is a reward unfailing.

فَمَا يُكَذِّبُكَ بَعۡدُ بِالدِّيۡنِ ۝٧

95:7So who henceforth will give the lie to thee about the judgment?

اَلَيۡسَ اللّٰهُ بِاَحۡكَمِ الۡحٰكِمِيۡنَ ۝٨

95:8Is not Allah the most conclusive of all judges?

اِقۡرَاۡ بِاسۡمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِىۡ خَلَقَۚ ۝١

96:1Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth,

خَلَقَ الۡاِنۡسَانَ مِنۡ عَلَقٍۚ ۝٢

96:2Createth man from a clot.

اِقۡرَاۡ وَرَبُّكَ الۡاَكۡرَمُۙ ۝٣

96:3Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous,

الَّذِىۡ عَلَّمَ بِالۡقَلَمِۙ ۝٤

96:4Who teacheth by the pen,

عَلَّمَ الۡاِنۡسَانَ مَا لَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡؕ ۝٥

96:5Teacheth man that which he knew not.

كَلَّاۤ اِنَّ الۡاِنۡسَانَ لَيَطۡغٰٓىۙ ۝٦

96:6Nay, but verily man is rebellious

اَنۡ رَّاٰهُ اسۡتَغۡنٰىؕ ۝٧

96:7That he thinketh himself independent!

اِنَّ اِلٰى رَبِّكَ الرُّجۡعٰىؕ ۝٨

96:8Lo! unto thy Lord is the return.

اَرَءَيۡتَ الَّذِىۡ يَنۡهٰىؕ ۝٩

96:9Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth

عَبۡدًا اِذَا صَلّٰىؕ ۝١٠

96:10A slave when he prayeth?

اَرَءَيۡتَ اِنۡ كَانَ عَلَى الۡهُدٰٓىۙ ۝١١

96:11Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah)

اَوۡ اَمَرَ بِالتَّقۡوٰىۙ ۝١٢

96:12Or enjoineth piety?

اَرَءَيۡتَ اِنۡ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلّٰىؕ ۝١٣

96:13Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward?

اَلَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡ بِاَنَّ اللّٰهَ يَرٰىؕ ۝١٤

96:14Is he then unaware that Allah seeth?

كَلَّا لَٮِٕنۡ لَّمۡ يَنۡتَهِࣙۙ لَنَسۡفَعًۢـا بِالنَّاصِيَةِۙ ۝١٥

96:15Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock -

نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍۚ ۝١٦

96:16The lying, sinful forelock -

فَلۡيَدۡعُ نَادِيَهٗۙ ۝١٧

96:17Then let him call upon his henchmen!
