Surah Al-Lail, Ayah 2 (92:2)
وَالنَّهَارِ اِذَا تَجَلّٰىۙ ٢
English translation (Pickthall)
And the day resplendent
Page 602
وَالۡاَرۡضِ وَمَا طَحٰٮهَاۙ ٦
91:6And the earth and Him Who spread it,
وَنَفۡسٍ وَّمَا سَوّٰٮهَاۙ ٧
91:7And a soul and Him Who perfected it
فَاَلۡهَمَهَا فُجُوۡرَهَا وَتَقۡوٰٮهَاۙ ٨
91:8And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it.
قَدۡ اَفۡلَحَ مَنۡ زَكّٰٮهَاۙ ٩
91:9He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow,
وَقَدۡ خَابَ مَنۡ دَسّٰٮهَاؕ ١٠
91:10And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it.
كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُوۡدُ بِطَغۡوٰٮهَآۙ ١١
91:11(The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride,
اِذِ انۡۢبَعَثَ اَشۡقٰٮهَا ۙ ١٢
91:12When the basest of them broke forth
فَقَالَ لَهُمۡ رَسُوۡلُ اللّٰهِ نَاقَةَ اللّٰهِ وَسُقۡيٰهَاؕ ١٣
91:13And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink!
فَكَذَّبُوۡهُ فَعَقَرُوۡهَاࣙۙ فَدَمۡدَمَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ بِذَنۡۢبِهِمۡ فَسَوّٰٮهَاۙ ١٤
91:14But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and razed (their dwellings).
وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقۡبٰهَا ١٥
91:15He dreadeth not the sequel (of events).
وَالَّيۡلِ اِذَا يَغۡشٰىۙ ١
92:1By the night enshrouding
وَالنَّهَارِ اِذَا تَجَلّٰىۙ ٢
92:2And the day resplendent
وَمَا خَلَقَ الذَّكَرَ وَالۡاُنۡثٰٓىۙ ٣
92:3And Him Who hath created male and female,
اِنَّ سَعۡيَكُمۡ لَشَتّٰىؕ ٤
92:4Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward diverse ends).
فَاَمَّا مَنۡ اَعۡطٰى وَاتَّقٰىۙ ٥
92:5As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah)
وَصَدَّقَ بِالۡحُسۡنٰىۙ ٦
92:6And believeth in goodness;
فَسَنُيَسِّرُهٗ لِلۡيُسۡرٰىؕ ٧
92:7Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease.
وَاَمَّا مَنۡۢ بَخِلَ وَاسۡتَغۡنٰىۙ ٨
92:8But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent,
وَكَذَّبَ بِالۡحُسۡنٰىۙ ٩
92:9And disbelieveth in goodness;
فَسَنُيَسِّرُهٗ لِلۡعُسۡرٰىؕ ١٠
92:10Surely We will ease his way unto adversity.
وَمَا يُغۡنِىۡ عَنۡهُ مَالُهٗۤ اِذَا تَرَدّٰىؕ ١١
92:11His riches will not save him when he perisheth.
اِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا لَـلۡهُدٰىۖ ١٢
92:12Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance
وَاِنَّ لَـنَا لَـلۡاٰخِرَةَ وَالۡاُوۡلٰى ١٣
92:13And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former.
فَاَنۡذَرۡتُكُمۡ نَارًا تَلَظّٰىۚ ١٤
92:14Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire
لَا يَصۡلٰٮهَاۤ اِلَّا الۡاَشۡقَىۙ ١٥
92:15Which only the most wretched must endure,
الَّذِىۡ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلّٰىؕ ١٦
92:16He who denieth and turneth away.
وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا الۡاَتۡقَىۙ ١٧
92:17Far removed from it will be the righteous
الَّذِىۡ يُؤۡتِىۡ مَالَهٗ يَتَزَكّٰىۚ ١٨
92:18Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness).
