Surah Al-Fajr (الفَجر)

Ayat 1–25

وَالۡفَجۡرِۙ ۝١

89:1By the Dawn

وَلَيَالٍ عَشۡرٍۙ ۝٢

89:2And ten nights,

وَّالشَّفۡعِ وَالۡوَتۡرِۙ ۝٣

89:3And the Even and the Odd,

وَالَّيۡلِ اِذَا يَسۡرِۚ ۝٤

89:4And the night when it departeth,

هَلۡ فِىۡ ذٰ لِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِىۡ حِجۡرٍؕ ۝٥

89:5There surely is an oath for thinking man.

اَلَمۡ تَرَ كَيۡفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍۙ ۝٦

89:6Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad,

اِرَمَ ذَاتِ الۡعِمَادِۙ ۝٧

89:7With many-columned Iram,

الَّتِىۡ لَمۡ يُخۡلَقۡ مِثۡلُهَا فِى الۡبِلَادِۙ ۝٨

89:8The like of which was not created in the lands;

وَثَمُوۡدَ الَّذِيۡنَ جَابُوا الصَّخۡرَ بِالۡوَادِۙ ۝٩

89:9And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley;

وَفِرۡعَوۡنَ ذِى الۡاَوۡتَادِۙ ۝١٠

89:10And with Pharaoh, firm of might,

الَّذِيۡنَ طَغَوۡا فِى الۡبِلَادِۙ ۝١١

89:11Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands,

فَاَكۡثَرُوۡا فِيۡهَا الۡفَسَادَۙ ۝١٢

89:12And multiplied iniquity therein?

فَصَبَّ عَلَيۡهِمۡ رَبُّكَ سَوۡطَ عَذَابٍۙۚ ۝١٣

89:13Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment.

اِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالۡمِرۡصَادِؕ ۝١٤

89:14Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful.

فَاَمَّا الۡاِنۡسَانُ اِذَا مَا ابۡتَلٰٮهُ رَبُّهٗ فَاَكۡرَمَهٗ وَنَعَّمَهٗࣙۙ فَيَقُوۡلُ رَبِّىۡۤ اَكۡرَمَنِؕ ۝١٥

89:15As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me.

وَاَمَّاۤ اِذَا مَا ابۡتَلٰٮهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيۡهِ رِزۡقَهٗࣙۙ فَيَقُوۡلُ رَبِّىۡۤ اَهَانَنِۚ ۝١٦

89:16But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me.

كَلَّا بَلۡ لَّا تُكۡرِمُوۡنَ الۡيَتِيۡمَۙ ۝١٧

89:17Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan

وَلَا تَحٰٓضُّوۡنَ عَلٰى طَعَامِ الۡمِسۡكِيۡنِۙ ۝١٨

89:18And urge not on the feeding of the poor.

وَتَاۡكُلُوۡنَ التُّرَاثَ اَكۡلًا لَّـمًّاۙ ۝١٩

89:19And ye devour heritages with devouring greed.

وَّتُحِبُّوۡنَ الۡمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّاؕ ۝٢٠

89:20And love wealth with abounding love.

كَلَّاۤ اِذَا دُكَّتِ الۡاَرۡضُ دَكًّا دَكًّاۙ ۝٢١

89:21Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding,

وَّجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَالۡمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّاۚ ۝٢٢

89:22And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank,

وَجِاىْٓءَ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍۢ بِجَهَنَّمَࣙۙ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ يَّتَذَكَّرُ الۡاِنۡسَانُ وَاَنّٰى لَـهُ الذِّكۡرٰىؕ ۝٢٣

89:23And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)?

يَقُوۡلُ يٰلَيۡتَنِىۡ قَدَّمۡتُ لِحَـيَاتِىۚ ۝٢٤

89:24He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life!

فَيَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهٗۤ اَحَدٌۙ ۝٢٥

89:25None punisheth as He will punish on that day!
