Surah Abasa, Ayah 40 (80:40)

وَوُجُوۡهٌ يَّوۡمَٮِٕذٍ عَلَيۡهَا غَبَرَةٌۙ ۝٤٠

English translation (Pickthall)

And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them,

ثُمَّ اَمَاتَهٗ فَاَقۡبَرَهٗۙ ۝٢١

80:21Then causeth him to die, and burieth him;

ثُمَّ اِذَا شَآءَ اَنۡشَرَهٗؕ ۝٢٢

80:22Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life.

كَلَّا لَـمَّا يَقۡضِ مَاۤ اَمَرَهٗؕ ۝٢٣

80:23Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him.

فَلۡيَنۡظُرِ الۡاِنۡسَانُ اِلٰى طَعَامِهٖۤۙ ۝٢٤

80:24Let man consider his food:

اَنَّا صَبَبۡنَا الۡمَآءَ صَبًّاۙ ۝٢٥

80:25How We pour water in showers

ثُمَّ شَقَقۡنَا الۡاَرۡضَ شَقًّاۙ ۝٢٦

80:26Then split the earth in clefts

فَاَنۡۢبَتۡنَا فِيۡهَا حَبًّاۙ ۝٢٧

80:27And cause the grain to grow therein

وَّ عِنَبًا وَّقَضۡبًاۙ ۝٢٨

80:28And grapes and green fodder

وَّزَيۡتُوۡنًا وَّنَخۡلًاؕ ۝٢٩

80:29And olive-trees and palm-trees

وَّحَدَآٮِٕقَ غُلۡبًاۙ ۝٣٠

80:30And garden-closes of thick foliage

وَّفَاكِهَةً وَّاَبًّاۙ ۝٣١

80:31And fruits and grasses:

مَّتَاعًا لَّـكُمۡ وَلِاَنۡعَامِكُمۡؕ ۝٣٢

80:32Provision for you and your cattle.

فَاِذَا جَآءَتِ الصَّآخَّةُ ۝٣٣

80:33But when the Shout cometh

يَوۡمَ يَفِرُّ الۡمَرۡءُ مِنۡ اَخِيۡهِۙ ۝٣٤

80:34On the day when a man fleeth from his brother

وَاُمِّهٖ وَاَبِيۡهِۙ ۝٣٥

80:35And his mother and his father

وَصَاحِبَتِهٖ وَبَنِيۡهِؕ ۝٣٦

80:36And his wife and his children,

لِكُلِّ امۡرِیءٍ مِّنۡهُمۡ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ شَاۡنٌ يُّغۡنِيۡهِؕ ۝٣٧

80:37Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others).

وُجُوۡهٌ يَّوۡمَٮِٕذٍ مُّسۡفِرَةٌۙ ۝٣٨

80:38On that day faces will be bright as dawn,

ضَاحِكَةٌ مُّسۡتَبۡشِرَةٌۚ ۝٣٩

80:39Laughing, rejoicing at good news;

وَوُجُوۡهٌ يَّوۡمَٮِٕذٍ عَلَيۡهَا غَبَرَةٌۙ ۝٤٠

80:40And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them,

تَرۡهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌؕ ۝٤١

80:41Veiled in darkness,

اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ هُمُ الۡكَفَرَةُ الۡفَجَرَةُ ۝٤٢

80:42Those are the disbelievers, the wicked.

اِذَا الشَّمۡسُ كُوِّرَتۡۙ ۝١

81:1When the sun is overthrown,

وَاِذَا النُّجُوۡمُ انْكَدَرَتۡۙ ۝٢

81:2And when the stars fall,

وَاِذَا الۡجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتۡۙ ۝٣

81:3And when the hills are moved,

وَاِذَا الۡعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتۡۙ ۝٤

81:4And when the camels big with young are abandoned,

وَاِذَا الۡوُحُوۡشُ حُشِرَتۡۙ ۝٥

81:5And when the wild beasts are herded together,

وَاِذَا الۡبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتۡۙ ۝٦

81:6And when the seas rise,

وَاِذَا النُّفُوۡسُ زُوِّجَتۡۙ ۝٧

81:7And when souls are reunited,
