Surah Abasa, Ayah 16 (80:16)

كِرَامٍۢ بَرَرَةٍؕ ۝١٦

English translation (Pickthall)

Noble and righteous.

فَاِنَّ الۡجَحِيۡمَ هِىَ الۡمَاۡوٰىؕ ۝٣٩

79:39Lo! hell will be his home.

وَاَمَّا مَنۡ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهٖ وَ نَهَى النَّفۡسَ عَنِ الۡهَوٰىۙ ۝٤٠

79:40But as for him who feared to stand before his Lord and restrained his soul from lust,

فَاِنَّ الۡجَـنَّةَ هِىَ الۡمَاۡوٰىؕ ۝٤١

79:41Lo! the Garden will be his home.

يَسۡـــَٔلُوۡنَكَ عَنِ السَّاعَةِ اَيَّانَ مُرۡسٰٮهَاؕ ۝٤٢

79:42They ask thee of the Hour: when will it come to port?

فِيۡمَ اَنۡتَ مِنۡ ذِكۡرٰٮهَاؕ ۝٤٣

79:43Why (ask they)? What hast thou to tell thereof?

اِلٰى رَبِّكَ مُنۡتَهٰٮهَاؕ ۝٤٤

79:44Unto thy Lord belongeth (knowledge of) the term thereof.

اِنَّمَاۤ اَنۡتَ مُنۡذِرُ مَنۡ يَّخۡشٰٮهَاؕ ۝٤٥

79:45Thou art but a warner unto him who feareth it.

كَاَنَّهُمۡ يَوۡمَ يَرَوۡنَهَا لَمۡ يَلۡبَثُوۡۤا اِلَّا عَشِيَّةً اَوۡ ضُحٰٮهَا ۝٤٦

79:46On the day when they behold it, it will be as if they had but tarried for an evening or the morn thereof.

عَبَسَ وَتَوَلّٰٓىۙ ۝١

80:1He frowned and turned away

اَنۡ جَآءَهُ الۡاَعۡمٰىؕ ۝٢

80:2Because the blind man came unto him.

وَمَا يُدۡرِيۡكَ لَعَلَّهٗ يَزَّكّٰٓىۙ ۝٣

80:3What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace)

اَوۡ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنۡفَعَهُ الذِّكۡرٰىؕ ۝٤

80:4Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him?

اَمَّا مَنِ اسۡتَغۡنٰىۙ ۝٥

80:5As for him who thinketh himself independent,

فَاَنۡتَ لَهٗ تَصَدّٰىؕ ۝٦

80:6Unto him thou payest regard.

وَمَا عَلَيۡكَ اَلَّا يَزَّكّٰٓىؕ ۝٧

80:7Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace).

وَاَمَّا مَنۡ جَآءَكَ يَسۡعٰىۙ ۝٨

80:8But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose

وَهُوَ يَخۡشٰىۙ ۝٩

80:9And hath fear,

فَاَنۡتَ عَنۡهُ تَلَهّٰىۚ ۝١٠

80:10From him thou art distracted.

كَلَّاۤ اِنَّهَا تَذۡكِرَةٌۚ ۝١١

80:11Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment,

فَمَنۡ شَآءَ ذَكَرَهٗۘ ۝١٢

80:12So let whosoever will pay heed to it,

فِىۡ صُحُفٍ مُّكَرَّمَةٍۙ ۝١٣

80:13On honoured leaves

مَّرۡفُوۡعَةٍ مُّطَهَّرَةٍۙ ۝١٤

80:14Exalted, purified,

ۢبِاَيۡدِىۡ سَفَرَةٍۙ ۝١٥

80:15(Set down) by scribes

كِرَامٍۢ بَرَرَةٍؕ ۝١٦

80:16Noble and righteous.

قُتِلَ الۡاِنۡسَانُ مَاۤ اَكۡفَرَهٗؕ ۝١٧

80:17Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful is he!

مِنۡ اَىِّ شَىۡءٍ خَلَقَهٗؕ ۝١٨

80:18From what thing doth He create him?

مِنۡ نُّطۡفَةٍؕ خَلَقَهٗ فَقَدَّرَهٗۙ ۝١٩

80:19From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him,

ثُمَّ السَّبِيۡلَ يَسَّرَهٗۙ ۝٢٠

80:20Then maketh the way easy for him,
