Surah Al-Muddaththir, Ayah 20 (74:20)
ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيۡفَ قَدَّرَۙ ٢٠
English translation (Pickthall)
Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! -

يٰۤاَيُّهَا الۡمُدَّثِّرُۙ ١
74:1O thou enveloped in thy cloak,
قُمۡ فَاَنۡذِرۡۙ ٢
74:2Arise and warn!
وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرۡۙ ٣
74:3Thy Lord magnify,
وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرۡۙ ٤
74:4Thy raiment purify,
وَالرُّجۡزَ فَاهۡجُرۡۙ ٥
74:5Pollution shun!
وَلَا تَمۡنُنۡ تَسۡتَكۡثِرُۙ ٦
74:6And show not favour, seeking wordly gain!
وَ لِرَبِّكَ فَاصۡبِرۡؕ ٧
74:7For the sake of thy Lord, be patient!
فَاِذَا نُقِرَ فِى النَّاقُوۡرِۙ ٨
74:8For when the trumpet shall sound,
فَذٰ لِكَ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ يَّوۡمٌ عَسِيۡرٌۙ ٩
74:9Surely that day will be a day of anguish,
عَلَى الۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ غَيۡرُ يَسِيۡرٍ ١٠
74:10Not of ease, for disbelievers.
ذَرۡنِىۡ وَمَنۡ خَلَقۡتُ وَحِيۡدًاۙ ١١
74:11Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely,
وَّجَعَلۡتُ لَهٗ مَالًا مَّمۡدُوۡدًاۙ ١٢
74:12And then bestowed upon him ample means,
وَّبَنِيۡنَ شُهُوۡدًاۙ ١٣
74:13And sons abiding in his presence
وَّمَهَّدۡتُّ لَهٗ تَمۡهِيۡدًاۙ ١٤
74:14And made (life) smooth for him.
ثُمَّ يَطۡمَعُ اَنۡ اَزِيۡدَۙ ١٥
74:15Yet he desireth that I should give more.
كَلَّاؕ اِنَّهٗ كَانَ لِاٰيٰتِنَا عَنِيۡدًاؕ ١٦
74:16Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations.
سَاُرۡهِقُهٗ صَعُوۡدًاؕ ١٧
74:17On him I shall impose a fearful doom.
اِنَّهٗ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَۙ ١٨
74:18For lo! he did consider; then he planned -
فَقُتِلَ كَيۡفَ قَدَّرَۙ ١٩
74:19(Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned!
ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيۡفَ قَدَّرَۙ ٢٠
74:20Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! -
ثُمَّ نَظَرَۙ ٢١
74:21Then looked he,
ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَۙ ٢٢
74:22Then frowned he and showed displeasure.
ثُمَّ اَدۡبَرَ وَاسۡتَكۡبَرَۙ ٢٣
74:23Then turned he away in pride
فَقَالَ اِنۡ هٰذَاۤ اِلَّا سِحۡرٌ يُّؤۡثَرُۙ ٢٤
74:24And said: This is naught else than magic from of old;
اِنۡ هٰذَاۤ اِلَّا قَوۡلُ الۡبَشَرِؕ ٢٥
74:25This is naught else than speech of mortal man.
سَاُصۡلِيۡهِ سَقَرَ ٢٦
74:26Him shall I fling unto the burning.
وَمَاۤ اَدۡرٰٮكَ مَا سَقَرُؕ ٢٧
74:27- Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! -
لَا تُبۡقِىۡ وَ لَا تَذَرُۚ ٢٨
74:28It leaveth naught; it spareth naught
لَـوَّاحَةٌ لِّلۡبَشَرِۖۚ ٢٩
74:29It shrivelleth the man.
عَلَيۡهَا تِسۡعَةَ عَشَرَؕ ٣٠
74:30Above it are nineteen.
