Surah Al-Qalam, Ayah 28 (68:28)
قَالَ اَوۡسَطُهُمۡ اَلَمۡ اَقُلۡ لَّكُمۡ لَوۡلَا تُسَبِّحُوۡنَ ٢٨
English translation (Pickthall)
The best among them said: Said I not unto you: Why glorify ye not (Allah)?

اِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ اَعۡلَمُ بِمَنۡ ضَلَّ عَنۡ سَبِيۡلِهٖ وَهُوَ اَعۡلَمُ بِالۡمُهۡتَدِيۡنَ ٧
68:7Lo! thy Lord is best aware of him who strayeth from His way, and He is best aware of those who walk aright.
فَلَا تُطِعِ الۡمُكَذِّبِيۡنَ ٨
68:8Therefor obey not thou the rejecters
وَدُّوۡا لَوۡ تُدۡهِنُ فَيُدۡهِنُوۡنَ ٩
68:9Who would have had thee compromise, that they may compromise.
وَلَا تُطِعۡ كُلَّ حَلَّافٍ مَّهِيۡنٍۙ ١٠
68:10Neither obey thou each feeble oath-monger,
هَمَّازٍ مَّشَّآءٍۢ بِنَمِيۡمٍۙ ١١
68:11Detracter, spreader abroad of slanders,
مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلۡخَيۡرِ مُعۡتَدٍ اَثِيۡمٍۙ ١٢
68:12Hinderer of the good, transgressor, malefactor
عُتُلٍّ ۢ بَعۡدَ ذٰ لِكَ زَنِيۡمٍۙ ١٣
68:13Greedy therewithal, intrusive.
اَنۡ كَانَ ذَا مَالٍ وَّبَنِيۡنَؕ ١٤
68:14It is because he is possessed of wealth and children
اِذَا تُتۡلٰى عَلَيۡهِ اٰيٰتُنَا قَالَ اَسَاطِيۡرُ الۡاَوَّلِيۡنَ ١٥
68:15That, when Our revelations are recited unto him, he saith: Mere fables of the men of old.
سَنَسِمُهٗ عَلَى الۡخُـرۡطُوۡمِ ١٦
68:16We shall brand him on the nose.
اِنَّا بَلَوۡنٰهُمۡ كَمَا بَلَوۡنَاۤ اَصۡحٰبَ الۡجَـنَّةِۚ اِذۡ اَقۡسَمُوۡا لَيَصۡرِمُنَّهَا مُصۡبِحِيۡنَۙ ١٧
68:17Lo! We have tried them as We tried the owners of the garden when they vowed they would pluck its fruit next morning,
وَلَا يَسۡتَثۡنُوۡنَ ١٨
68:18And made no exception (for the Will of Allah);
فَطَافَ عَلَيۡهَا طَآٮِٕفٌ مِّنۡ رَّبِّكَ وَهُمۡ نَآٮِٕمُوۡنَ ١٩
68:19Then a visitation came upon from thy Lord it while they slept
فَاَصۡبَحَتۡ كَالصَّرِيۡمِۙ ٢٠
68:20And in the morning it was as if plucked.
فَتَـنَادَوۡا مُصۡبِحِيۡنَۙ ٢١
68:21And they cried out one unto another in the morning,
اَنِ اغۡدُوۡا عَلٰى حَرۡثِكُمۡ اِنۡ كُنۡتُمۡ صٰرِمِيۡنَ ٢٢
68:22Saying: Run unto your field if ye would pluck (the fruit).
فَانۡطَلَقُوۡا وَهُمۡ يَتَخَافَتُوۡنَۙ ٢٣
68:23So they went off, saying one unto another in low tones:
اَنۡ لَّا يَدۡخُلَنَّهَا الۡيَوۡمَ عَلَيۡكُمۡ مِّسۡكِيۡنٌۙ ٢٤
68:24No needy man shall enter it to-day against you.
وَّغَدَوۡا عَلٰى حَرۡدٍ قٰدِرِيۡنَ ٢٥
68:25They went betimes, strong in (this) purpose.
فَلَمَّا رَاَوۡهَا قَالُوۡۤا اِنَّا لَـضَآلُّوۡنَۙ ٢٦
68:26But when they saw it, they said: Lo! we are in error!
بَلۡ نَحۡنُ مَحۡرُوۡمُوۡنَ ٢٧
68:27Nay, but we are desolate!
قَالَ اَوۡسَطُهُمۡ اَلَمۡ اَقُلۡ لَّكُمۡ لَوۡلَا تُسَبِّحُوۡنَ ٢٨
68:28The best among them said: Said I not unto you: Why glorify ye not (Allah)?
قَالُوۡا سُبۡحٰنَ رَبِّنَاۤ اِنَّا كُنَّا ظٰلِمِيۡنَ ٢٩
68:29They said: Glorified be our Lord! Lo! we have been wrong-doers.
فَاَقۡبَلَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلٰى بَعۡضٍ يَّتَلَاوَمُوۡنَ ٣٠
68:30Then some of them drew near unto others, self-reproaching.
قَالُوۡا يٰوَيۡلَنَاۤ اِنَّا كُنَّا طٰغِيۡنَ ٣١
68:31They said: Alas for us! In truth we were outrageous.
