Surah An-Najm, Ayah 7 (53:7)
وَهُوَ بِالۡاُفُقِ الۡاَعۡلٰىؕ ٧
English translation (Pickthall)
When he was on the uppermost horizon.
Page 527
وَالنَّجۡمِ اِذَا هَوٰىۙ ١
53:1By the Star when it setteth,
مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمۡ وَمَا غَوٰىۚ ٢
53:2Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived;
وَمَا يَنۡطِقُ عَنِ الۡهَوٰىؕ ٣
53:3Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire.
اِنۡ هُوَ اِلَّا وَحۡىٌ يُّوۡحٰىۙ ٤
53:4It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired,
عَلَّمَهٗ شَدِيۡدُ الۡقُوٰىۙ ٥
53:5Which one of mighty powers hath taught him,
ذُوۡ مِرَّةٍؕ فَاسۡتَوٰىۙ ٦
53:6One vigorous; and he grew clear to view
وَهُوَ بِالۡاُفُقِ الۡاَعۡلٰىؕ ٧
53:7When he was on the uppermost horizon.
ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلّٰىۙ ٨
53:8Then he drew nigh and came down
فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوۡسَيۡنِ اَوۡ اَدۡنٰىۚ ٩
53:9Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer,
فَاَوۡحٰۤى اِلٰى عَبۡدِهٖ مَاۤ اَوۡحٰىؕ ١٠
53:10And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed.
مَا كَذَبَ الۡفُؤَادُ مَا رَاٰى ١١
53:11The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw.
اَفَتُمٰرُوۡنَهٗ عَلٰى مَا يَرٰى ١٢
53:12Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth?
وَلَقَدۡ رَاٰهُ نَزۡلَةً اُخۡرٰىۙ ١٣
53:13And verily he saw him yet another time
عِنۡدَ سِدۡرَةِ الۡمُنۡتَهٰى ١٤
53:14By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary,
عِنۡدَهَا جَنَّةُ الۡمَاۡوٰىؕ ١٥
53:15Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode.
اِذۡ يَغۡشَى السِّدۡرَةَ مَا يَغۡشٰىۙ ١٦
53:16When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree,
مَا زَاغَ الۡبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغٰى ١٧
53:17The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold.
لَقَدۡ رَاٰى مِنۡ اٰيٰتِ رَبِّهِ الۡكُبۡرٰى ١٨
53:18Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord.
اَفَرَءَيۡتُمُ اللّٰتَ وَالۡعُزّٰىۙ ١٩
53:19Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza
وَمَنٰوةَ الثَّالِثَةَ الۡاُخۡرٰى ٢٠
53:20And Manat, the third, the other?
اَلَـكُمُ الذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ الۡاُنۡثٰى ٢١
53:21Are yours the males and His the females?
تِلۡكَ اِذًا قِسۡمَةٌ ضِيۡزٰى ٢٢
53:22That indeed were an unfair division!
اِنۡ هِىَ اِلَّاۤ اَسۡمَآءٌ سَمَّيۡتُمُوۡهَاۤ اَنۡتُمۡ وَاٰبَآؤُكُمۡ مَّاۤ اَنۡزَلَ اللّٰهُ بِهَا مِنۡ سُلۡطٰنٍؕ اِنۡ يَّتَّبِعُوۡنَ اِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهۡوَى الۡاَنۡفُسُۚ وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَهُمۡ مِّنۡ رَّبِّهِمُ الۡهُدٰىؕ ٢٣
53:23They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them.
اَمۡ لِلۡاِنۡسَانِ مَا تَمَنّٰىۖ ٢٤
53:24Or shall man have what he coveteth?
فَلِلّٰهِ الۡاٰخِرَةُ وَالۡاُوۡلٰى ٢٥
53:25But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former.
