Surah Sad, Ayah 79 (38:79)

قَالَ رَبِّ فَاَنۡظِرۡنِىۡۤ اِلٰى يَوۡمِ يُبۡعَثُوۡنَ ۝٧٩

English translation (Pickthall)

He said: My Lord! Reprieve me till the Day when they are raised.

Page 458

اَ تَّخَذۡنٰهُمۡ سِخۡرِيًّا اَمۡ زَاغَتۡ عَنۡهُمُ الۡاَبۡصَارُ ۝٦٣

38:63Did we take them (wrongly) for a laughing-stock, or have our eyes missed them?

اِنَّ ذٰ لِكَ لَحَقٌّ تَخَاصُمُ اَهۡلِ النَّارِ ۝٦٤

38:64Lo! that is very truth: the wrangling of the dwellers in the Fire.

قُلۡ اِنَّمَاۤ اَنَا مُنۡذِرٌۖ وَّمَا مِنۡ اِلٰهٍ اِلَّا اللّٰهُ الۡوَاحِدُ الۡقَهَّارُۚ ۝٦٥

38:65Say (unto them, O Muhammad): I am only a warner, and there is no God save Allah, the One, the Absolute,

رَبُّ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا الۡعَزِيۡزُ الۡغَفَّارُ ۝٦٦

38:66Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, the Mighty, the Pardoning.

قُلۡ هُوَ نَبَؤٌا عَظِيۡمٌۙ ۝٦٧

38:67Say: It is tremendous tidings

اَنۡتُمۡ عَنۡهُ مُعۡرِضُوۡنَ ۝٦٨

38:68Whence ye turn away!

مَا كَانَ لِىَ مِنۡ عِلۡمٍۢ بِالۡمَلَاِ الۡاَعۡلٰٓى اِذۡ يَخۡتَصِمُوۡنَ ۝٦٩

38:69I had no knowledge of the Highest Chiefs when they disputed;

اِنۡ يُّوۡحٰۤى اِلَىَّ اِلَّاۤ اَنَّمَاۤ اَنَا۟ نَذِيۡرٌ مُّبِيۡنٌ ۝٧٠

38:70It is revealed unto me only that I may be a plain warner.

اِذۡ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلۡمَلٰٓٮِٕكَةِ اِنِّىۡ خَالِـقٌ ۢ بَشَرًا مِّنۡ طِيۡنٍ ۝٧١

38:71When thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am about to create a mortal out of mire,

فَاِذَا سَوَّيۡتُهٗ وَنَفَخۡتُ فِيۡهِ مِنۡ رُّوۡحِىۡ فَقَعُوۡا لَهٗ سٰجِدِيۡنَ ۝٧٢

38:72And when I have fashioned him and breathed into him of My Spirit, then fall down before him prostrate,

فَسَجَدَ الۡمَلٰٓٮِٕكَةُ كُلُّهُمۡ اَجۡمَعُوۡنَۙ ۝٧٣

38:73The angels fell down prostrate, every one,

اِلَّاۤ اِبۡلِيۡسَؕ اِسۡتَكۡبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ الۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ ۝٧٤

38:74Saving Iblis; he was scornful and became one of the disbelievers.

قَالَ يٰۤـاِبۡلِيۡسُ مَا مَنَعَكَ اَنۡ تَسۡجُدَ لِمَا خَلَقۡتُ بِيَدَىَّؕ اَسۡتَكۡبَرۡتَ اَمۡ كُنۡتَ مِنَ الۡعَالِيۡنَ ۝٧٥

38:75He said: O Iblis! What hindereth thee from falling prostrate before that which I have created with both My hands? Art thou too proud or art thou of the high exalted?

قَالَ اَنَا خَيۡرٌ مِّنۡهُؕ خَلَقۡتَنِىۡ مِنۡ نَّارٍ وَّخَلَقۡتَهٗ مِنۡ طِيۡنٍ ۝٧٦

38:76He said: I am better than him. Thou createdst me of fire, whilst him Thou didst create of clay.

قَالَ فَاخۡرُجۡ مِنۡهَا فَاِنَّكَ رَجِيۡمٌۖۚ ۝٧٧

38:77He said: Go forth from hence, for lo! thou art outcast,

وَّاِنَّ عَلَيۡكَ لَعۡنَتِىۡۤ اِلٰى يَوۡمِ الدِّيۡنِ ۝٧٨

38:78And lo! My curse is on thee till the Day of Judgment.

قَالَ رَبِّ فَاَنۡظِرۡنِىۡۤ اِلٰى يَوۡمِ يُبۡعَثُوۡنَ ۝٧٩

38:79He said: My Lord! Reprieve me till the Day when they are raised.

قَالَ فَاِنَّكَ مِنَ الۡمُنۡظَرِيۡنَۙ ۝٨٠

38:80He said: Lo! thou art of those reprieved

اِلٰى يَوۡمِ الۡوَقۡتِ الۡمَعۡلُوۡمِ ۝٨١

38:81Until the Day of the time appointed.

قَالَ فَبِعِزَّتِكَ لَاُغۡوِيَنَّهُمۡ اَجۡمَعِيۡنَۙ ۝٨٢

38:82He said: Then, by Thy might, I surely will beguile them every one,
