Surah Sad, Ayah 56 (38:56)
جَهَـنَّمَۚ يَصۡلَوۡنَهَاۚ فَبِئۡسَ الۡمِهَادُ ٥٦
English translation (Pickthall)
Hell, where they will burn, an evil resting-place.

وَخُذۡ بِيَدِكَ ضِغۡثًا فَاضۡرِبْ بِّهٖ وَلَا تَحۡنَثۡؕ اِنَّا وَجَدۡنٰهُ صَابِرًاؕ نِعۡمَ الۡعَبۡدُؕ اِنَّـهٗۤ اَوَّابٌ ٤٤
38:44And (it was said unto him): Take in thine hand a branch and smite therewith, and break not thine oath. Lo! We found him steadfast, how excellent a slave! Lo! he was ever turning in repentance (to his Lord).
وَاذۡكُرۡ عِبٰدَنَاۤ اِبۡرٰهِيۡمَ وَاِسۡحٰقَ وَيَعۡقُوۡبَ اُولِى الۡاَيۡدِىۡ وَالۡاَبۡصَارِ ٤٥
38:45And make mention of Our bondmen, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, men of parts and vision.
اِنَّاۤ اَخۡلَصۡنٰهُمۡ بِخَالِصَةٍ ذِكۡرَى الدَّارِۚ ٤٦
38:46Lo! We purified them with a pure thought, remembrance of the Home (of the Hereafter).
وَاِنَّهُمۡ عِنۡدَنَا لَمِنَ الۡمُصۡطَفَيۡنَ الۡاَخۡيَارِؕ ٤٧
38:47Lo! in Our sight they are verily of the elect, the excellent.
وَاذۡكُرۡ اِسۡمٰعِيۡلَ وَ الۡيَسَعَ وَذَا الۡكِفۡلِؕ وَكُلٌّ مِّنَ الۡاَخۡيَارِؕ ٤٨
38:48And make mention of Ishmael and Elisha and Dhu'l-Kifl. All are of the chosen.
هٰذَا ذِكۡرٌؕ وَاِنَّ لِلۡمُتَّقِيۡنَ لَحُسۡنَ مَاٰبٍۙ ٤٩
38:49This is a reminder. And lo! for those who ward off (evil) is a happy journey's end,
جَنّٰتِ عَدۡنٍ مُّفَتَّحَةً لَّهُمُ الۡاَبۡوَابُۚ ٥٠
38:50Gardens of Eden, whereof the gates are opened for them,
مُتَّكِـــِٕيۡنَ فِيۡهَا يَدۡعُوۡنَ فِيۡهَا بِفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيۡرَةٍ وَّشَرَابٍ ٥١
38:51Wherein, reclining, they call for plenteous fruit and cool drink (that is) therein.
وَعِنۡدَهُمۡ قٰصِرٰتُ الطَّرۡفِ اَتۡرَابٌ ٥٢
38:52And with them are those of modest gaze, companions.
هٰذَا مَا تُوۡعَدُوۡنَ لِيَوۡمِ الۡحِسَابِ ٥٣
38:53This it is that ye are promised for the Day of Reckoning.
اِنَّ هٰذَا لَرِزۡقُنَا مَا لَهٗ مِنۡ نَّـفَادٍۖۚ ٥٤
38:54Lo! this in truth is Our provision, which will never waste away.
هٰذَاؕ وَاِنَّ لِلطّٰغِيۡنَ لَشَرَّ مَاٰبٍۙ ٥٥
38:55This (is for the righteous). And lo! for the transgressors there with be an evil journey's end,
جَهَـنَّمَۚ يَصۡلَوۡنَهَاۚ فَبِئۡسَ الۡمِهَادُ ٥٦
38:56Hell, where they will burn, an evil resting-place.
هٰذَاۙ فَلۡيَذُوۡقُوۡهُ حَمِيۡمٌ وَّغَسَّاقٌۙ ٥٧
38:57Here is a boiling and an ice-cold draught, so let them taste it,
وَّاٰخَرُ مِنۡ شَكۡلِهٖۤ اَزۡوَاجٌؕ ٥٨
38:58And other (torment) of the kind in pairs (the two extremes)!
هٰذَا فَوۡجٌ مُّقۡتَحِمٌ مَّعَكُمۡۚ لَا مَرۡحَبًۢـا بِهِمۡؕ اِنَّهُمۡ صَالُوا النَّارِ ٥٩
38:59Here is an army rushing blindly with you. (Those who are already in the Fire say): No word of welcome for them. Lo! they will roast at the Fire.
قَالُوۡا بَلۡ اَنۡتُمۡ لَا مَرۡحَبًۢـا بِكُمۡؕ اَنۡتُمۡ قَدَّمۡتُمُوۡهُ لَنَاۚ فَبِئۡسَ الۡقَرَارُ ٦٠
38:60They say: Nay, but you (misleaders), for you there is no word of welcome. Ye prepared this for us (by your misleading). Now hapless is the plight.
قَالُوۡا رَبَّنَا مَنۡ قَدَّمَ لَنَا هٰذَا فَزِدۡهُ عَذَابًا ضِعۡفًا فِى النَّارِ ٦١
38:61They say: Our Lord! Whoever did prepare this for us, oh, give him double portion of the Fire!
وَقَالُوۡا مَا لَنَا لَا نَرٰى رِجَالًا كُنَّا نَـعُدُّهُمۡ مِّنَ الۡاَشۡرَارِؕ ٦٢
38:62And they say: What aileth us that we behold not men whom we were wont to count among the wicked?
