Surah As-Saaffat, Ayah 48 (37:48)

وَعِنۡدَهُمۡ قٰصِرٰتُ الطَّرۡفِ عِيۡنٌۙ ۝٤٨

English translation (Pickthall)

And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes,

Page 448

وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيۡكُمۡ مِّنۡ سُلۡطٰنٍۚ بَلۡ كُنۡتُمۡ قَوۡمًا طٰغِيۡنَ ۝٣٠

37:30We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk.

فَحَقَّ عَلَيۡنَا قَوۡلُ رَبِّنَآ ۖ اِنَّا لَذَآٮِٕقُوۡنَ ۝٣١

37:31Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom).

فَاَغۡوَيۡنٰكُمۡ اِنَّا كُنَّا غٰوِيۡنَ ۝٣٢

37:32Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray.

فَاِنَّهُمۡ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ فِى الۡعَذَابِ مُشۡتَرِكُوۡنَ ۝٣٣

37:33Then lo! this Day they (both) are sharers in the doom.

اِنَّا كَذٰ لِكَ نَفۡعَلُ بِالۡمُجۡرِمِيۡنَ ۝٣٤

37:34Lo! thus deal We with the guilty.

اِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوۡۤا اِذَا قِيۡلَ لَهُمۡ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللّٰهُ ۙ يَسۡتَكۡبِرُوۡنَۙ ۝٣٥

37:35For when it was said unto them, There is no god save Allah, they were scornful

وَيَقُوۡلُوۡنَ اَٮِٕنَّا لَتٰرِكُوۡۤا اٰلِهَـتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَّجۡـنُوۡنٍؕ ۝٣٦

37:36And said: Shall we forsake our gods for a mad poet?

بَلۡ جَآءَ بِالۡحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ الۡمُرۡسَلِيۡنَ ۝٣٧

37:37Nay, but he brought the Truth, and he confirmed those sent (before him).

اِنَّكُمۡ لَذَآٮِٕقُوا الۡعَذَابِ الۡاَلِيۡمِۚ ۝٣٨

37:38Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom -

وَمَا تُجۡزَوۡنَ اِلَّا مَا كُنۡتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُوۡنَۙ ۝٣٩

37:39Ye are requited naught save what ye did -

اِلَّا عِبَادَ اللّٰهِ الۡمُخۡلَصِيۡنَ ۝٤٠

37:40Save single-minded slaves of Allah;

اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ لَهُمۡ رِزۡقٌ مَّعۡلُوۡمٌۙ ۝٤١

37:41For them there is a known provision,

فَوَاكِهُۚ وَهُمۡ مُّكۡرَمُوۡنَۙ ۝٤٢

37:42Fruits. And they will be honoured

فِىۡ جَنّٰتِ النَّعِيۡمِۙ ۝٤٣

37:43In the Gardens of delight,

عَلٰى سُرُرٍ مُّتَقٰبِلِيۡنَ ۝٤٤

37:44On couches facing one another;

يُطَافُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ بِكَاۡسٍ مِّنۡ مَّعِيۡنٍۢ ۙ ۝٤٥

37:45A cup from a gushing spring is brought round for them,

بَيۡضَآءَ لَذَّةٍ لِّلشّٰرِبِيۡنَ ۖۚ ۝٤٦

37:46White, delicious to the drinkers,

لَا فِيۡهَا غَوۡلٌ وَّلَا هُمۡ عَنۡهَا يُنۡزَفُوۡنَ ۝٤٧

37:47Wherein there is no headache nor are they made mad thereby.

وَعِنۡدَهُمۡ قٰصِرٰتُ الطَّرۡفِ عِيۡنٌۙ ۝٤٨

37:48And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes,

كَاَنَّهُنَّ بَيۡضٌ مَّكۡنُوۡنٌ ۝٤٩

37:49(Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich).

فَاَقۡبَلَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلٰى بَعۡضٍ يَّتَسَآءَلُوۡنَ ۝٥٠

37:50And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning.

قَالَ قَآٮِٕلٌ مِّنۡهُمۡ اِنِّىۡ كَانَ لِىۡ قَرِيۡنٌۙ ۝٥١

37:51A speaker of them saith: Lo! I had a comrade

يَقُوۡلُ اَءِنَّكَ لَمِنَ الۡمُصَدِّقِيۡنَ ۝٥٢

37:52Who used to say: Art thou in truth of those who put faith (in his words)?

ءَاِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَّعِظَامًا ءَاِنَّا لَمَدِيۡنُوۡنَ ۝٥٣

37:53Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book?

قَالَ هَلۡ اَنۡتُمۡ مُّطَّلِعُوۡنَ ۝٥٤

37:54He saith: Will ye look?

فَاطَّلَعَ فَرَاٰهُ فِىۡ سَوَآءِ الۡجَحِيۡمِ ۝٥٥

37:55Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of hell.

قَالَ تَاللّٰهِ اِنۡ كِدْتَّ لَـتُرۡدِيۡنِۙ ۝٥٦

37:56He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin,
