Surah Al-Baqara, Ayah 243 (2:243)
اَلَمۡ تَرَ اِلَى الَّذِيۡنَ خَرَجُوۡا مِنۡ دِيَارِهِمۡ وَهُمۡ اُلُوۡفٌ حَذَرَ الۡمَوۡتِ فَقَالَ لَهُمُ اللّٰهُ مُوۡتُوۡا ثُمَّ اَحۡيَاھُمۡؕ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَذُوۡ فَضۡلٍ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَلٰـكِنَّ اَکۡثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَشۡکُرُوۡنَ ٢٤٣
English translation (Pickthall)
Bethink thee (O Muhammad) of those of old, who went forth from their habitations in their thousands, fearing death, and Allah said unto them: Die; and then He brought them back to life. Lo! Allah is a Lord of Kindness to mankind, but most of mankind give not thanks.

وَقَاتِلُوۡا فِىۡ سَبِيۡلِ اللّٰهِ وَاعۡلَمُوۡٓا اَنَّ اللّٰهَ سَمِيۡعٌ عَلِيۡمٌ ٢٤٤
2:244Fight in the way of Allah, and know that Allah is Hearer, Knower.
مَنۡ ذَا الَّذِىۡ يُقۡرِضُ اللّٰهَ قَرۡضًا حَسَنًا فَيُضٰعِفَهٗ لَهٗۤ اَضۡعَافًا کَثِيۡرَةً ؕ وَاللّٰهُ يَقۡبِضُ وَيَبــۡصۜـُـطُ وَاِلَيۡهِ تُرۡجَعُوۡنَ ٢٤٥
2:245Who is it that will lend unto Allah a goodly loan, so that He may give it increase manifold? Allah straiteneth and enlargeth. Unto Him ye will return.
اَلَمۡ تَرَ اِلَى الۡمَلَاِ مِنۡۢ بَنِىۡٓ اِسۡرَآءِيۡلَ مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِ مُوۡسٰىۘ اِذۡ قَالُوۡا لِنَبِىٍّ لَّهُمُ ابۡعَثۡ لَنَا مَلِکًا نُّقَاتِلۡ فِىۡ سَبِيۡلِ اللّٰهِؕ قَالَ هَلۡ عَسَيۡتُمۡ اِنۡ کُتِبَ عَلَيۡکُمُ الۡقِتَالُ اَلَّا تُقَاتِلُوۡاؕ قَالُوۡا وَمَا لَنَآ اَلَّا نُقَاتِلَ فِىۡ سَبِيۡلِ اللّٰهِ وَقَدۡ اُخۡرِجۡنَا مِنۡ دِيَارِنَا وَاَبۡنَآٮِٕنَاؕ فَلَمَّا کُتِبَ عَلَيۡهِمُ الۡقِتَالُ تَوَلَّوۡا اِلَّا قَلِيۡلًا مِّنۡهُمۡؕ وَاللّٰهُ عَلِيۡمٌۢ بِالظّٰلِمِيۡنَ ٢٤٦
2:246Bethink thee of the leaders of the Children of Israel after Moses, how they said unto a prophet whom they had: Set up for us a king and we will fight in Allah's way. He said: Would ye then refrain from fighting if fighting were prescribed for you? They said: Why should we not fight in Allah's way when we have been driven from our dwellings with our children? Yet, when fighting was prescribed for them, they turned away, all save a few of them. Allah is aware of evil-doers.
وَقَالَ لَهُمۡ نَبِيُّهُمۡ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ قَدۡ بَعَثَ لَـکُمۡ طَالُوۡتَ مَلِكًاؕ قَالُوۡٓا اَنّٰى يَكُوۡنُ لَهُ الۡمُلۡكُ عَلَيۡنَا وَنَحۡنُ اَحَقُّ بِالۡمُلۡكِ مِنۡهُ وَلَمۡ يُؤۡتَ سَعَةً مِّنَ الۡمَالِؕ قَالَ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ اصۡطَفٰٮهُ عَلَيۡکُمۡ وَزَادَهٗ بَسۡطَةً فِى الۡعِلۡمِ وَ الۡجِسۡمِؕ وَاللّٰهُ يُؤۡتِىۡ مُلۡکَهٗ مَنۡ يَّشَآءُؕ وَاللّٰهُ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيۡمٌ ٢٤٧
2:247Their Prophet said unto them: Lo! Allah hath raised up Saul to be a king for you. They said: How can he have kingdom over us when we are more deserving of the kingdom than he is, since he hath not been given wealth enough? He said: Lo! Allah hath chosen him above you, and hath increased him abundantly in wisdom and stature. Allah bestoweth His Sovereignty on whom He will. Allah is All-Embracing, All-Knowing.
