Surah Maryam (مَریَم)

Ayat 1–25

كٓهٰيٰـعٓـصٓۚ ۝١

19:1Kaf. Ha. Ya. A'in. Sad.

ذِكۡرُ رَحۡمَتِ رَبِّكَ عَـبۡدَهٗ زَكَرِيَّاۖۚ ۝٢

19:2A mention of the mercy of thy Lord unto His servant Zachariah.

اِذۡ نَادٰى رَبَّهٗ نِدَآءً خَفِيًّا ۝٣

19:3When he cried unto his Lord a cry in secret,

قَالَ رَبِّ اِنِّىۡ وَهَنَ الۡعَظۡمُ مِنِّىۡ وَاشۡتَعَلَ الرَّاۡسُ شَيۡبًا وَّلَمۡ اَكُنۡۢ بِدُعَآٮِٕكَ رَبِّ شَقِيًّا ۝٤

19:4Saying: My Lord! Lo! the bones of me wax feeble and my head is shining with grey hair, and I have never been unblest in prayer to Thee, my Lord.

وَاِنِّىۡ خِفۡتُ الۡمَوَالِىَ مِنۡ وَّرَآءِىۡ وَكَانَتِ امۡرَاَتِىۡ عَاقِرًا فَهَبۡ لِىۡ مِنۡ لَّدُنۡكَ وَلِيًّاۙ ۝٥

19:5Lo! I fear my kinsfolk after me, since my wife is barren. Oh, give me from Thy presence a successor

يَّرِثُنِىۡ وَيَرِثُ مِنۡ اٰلِ يَعۡقُوۡبَۖ وَاجۡعَلۡهُ رَبِّ رَضِيًّا ۝٦

19:6Who shall inherit of me and inherit (also) of the house of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, acceptable (unto Thee).

يٰزَكَرِيَّاۤ اِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلٰمِࣙ اسۡمُهٗ يَحۡيٰىۙ لَمۡ نَجۡعَلْ لَّهٗ مِنۡ قَبۡلُ سَمِيًّا ۝٧

19:7(It was said unto him): O Zachariah! Lo! We bring thee tidings of a son whose name is John; we have given the same name to none before (him).

قَالَ رَبِّ اَنّٰى يَكُوۡنُ لِىۡ غُلٰمٌ وَّكَانَتِ امۡرَاَتِىۡ عَاقِرًا وَّقَدۡ بَلَـغۡتُ مِنَ الۡـكِبَرِ عِتِيًّا ۝٨

19:8He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached infirm old age?

قَالَ كَذٰ لِكَۚ قَالَ رَبُّكَ هُوَ عَلَـىَّ هَيِّنٌ وَّقَدۡ خَلَقۡتُكَ مِنۡ قَبۡلُ وَلَمۡ تَكُ شَيۡـًٔـا ۝٩

19:9He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me, even as I created thee before, when thou wast naught.

قَالَ رَبِّ اجۡعَلْ لِّىۡۤ اٰيَةًؕ قَالَ اٰيَتُكَ اَلَّا تُكَلِّمَ النَّاسَ ثَلٰثَ لَيَالٍ سَوِيًّا ۝١٠

19:10He said: My Lord! Appoint for me some token. He said: Thy token is that thou, with no bodily defect, shalt not speak unto mankind three nights.

فَخَرَجَ عَلٰى قَوۡمِهٖ مِنَ الۡمِحۡرَابِ فَاَوۡحٰٓى اِلَيۡهِمۡ اَنۡ سَبِّحُوۡا بُكۡرَةً وَّعَشِيًّا ۝١١

19:11Then he came forth unto his people from the sanctuary, and signified to them: Glorify your Lord at break of day and fall of night.

يٰيَحۡيٰى خُذِ الۡكِتٰبَ بِقُوَّةٍؕ وَاٰتَيۡنٰهُ الۡحُكۡمَ صَبِيًّاۙ ۝١٢

19:12(And it was said unto his son): O John! Hold fast the Scripture. And we gave him wisdom when a child,

وَّحَنَانًـا مِّنۡ لَّدُنَّا وَزَكٰوةً ؕ وَكَانَ تَقِيًّاۙ ۝١٣

19:13And compassion from Our presence, and purity; and he was devout,

وَّبَرًّۢا بِوَالِدَيۡهِ وَلَمۡ يَكُنۡ جَبَّارًا عَصِيًّا ۝١٤

19:14And dutiful toward his parents. And he was not arrogant, rebellious.

وَسَلٰمٌ عَلَيۡهِ يَوۡمَ وُلِدَ وَيَوۡمَ يَمُوۡتُ وَيَوۡمَ يُبۡعَثُ حَيًّا ۝١٥

19:15Peace on him the day he was born, and the day he dieth and the day he shall be raised alive!

وَاذۡكُرۡ فِى الۡـكِتٰبِ مَرۡيَمَۘ اِذِ انْتَبَذَتۡ مِنۡ اَهۡلِهَا مَكَانًا شَرۡقِيًّاۙ ۝١٦

19:16And make mention of Mary in the Scripture, when she had withdrawn from her people to a chamber looking East,

فَاتَّخَذَتۡ مِنۡ دُوۡنِهِمۡ حِجَابًا فَاَرۡسَلۡنَاۤ اِلَيۡهَا رُوۡحَنَا فَتَمَثَّلَ لَهَا بَشَرًا سَوِيًّا ۝١٧

19:17And had chosen seclusion from them. Then We sent unto her Our Spirit and it assumed for her the likeness of a perfect man.

قَالَتۡ اِنِّىۡۤ اَعُوۡذُ بِالرَّحۡمٰنِ مِنۡكَ اِنۡ كُنۡتَ تَقِيًّا ۝١٨

19:18She said: Lo! I seek refuge in the Beneficent One from thee, if thou art God-fearing.

‌قَالَ اِنَّمَاۤ اَنَا رَسُوۡلُ رَبِّكِۖ لِاَهَبَ لَـكِ غُلٰمًا زَكِيًّا ۝١٩

19:19He said: I am only a messenger of thy Lord, that I may bestow on thee a faultless son.

قَالَتۡ اَنّٰى يَكُوۡنُ لِىۡ غُلٰمٌ وَّلَمۡ يَمۡسَسۡنِىۡ بَشَرٌ وَّلَمۡ اَكُ بَغِيًّا ۝٢٠

19:20She said: How can I have a son when no mortal hath touched me, neither have I been unchaste?

قَالَ كَذٰلِكِۚ قَالَ رَبُّكِ هُوَ عَلَـىَّ هَيِّنٌۚ وَلِنَجۡعَلَهٗۤ اٰيَةً لِّلنَّاسِ وَرَحۡمَةً مِّنَّاۚ وَكَانَ اَمۡرًا مَّقۡضِيًّا ۝٢١

19:21He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me. And (it will be) that We may make of him a Revelation for mankind and a mercy from Us, and it is a thing ordained.

فَحَمَلَـتۡهُ فَانْتَبَذَتۡ بِهٖ مَكَانًا قَصِيًّا ۝٢٢

19:22And she conceived him, and she withdrew with him to a far place.

فَاَجَآءَهَا الۡمَخَاضُ اِلٰى جِذۡعِ النَّخۡلَةِۚ قَالَتۡ يٰلَيۡتَنِىۡ مِتُّ قَبۡلَ هٰذَا وَكُنۡتُ نَسۡيًا مَّنۡسِيًّا ۝٢٣

19:23And the pangs of childbirth drove her unto the trunk of the palm-tree. She said: Oh, would that I had died ere this and had become a thing of naught, forgotten!

فَنَادٰٮهَا مِنۡ تَحۡتِهَاۤ اَلَّا تَحۡزَنِىۡ قَدۡ جَعَلَ رَبُّكِ تَحۡتَكِ سَرِيًّا ۝٢٤

19:24Then (one) cried unto her from below her, saying: Grieve not! Thy Lord hath placed a rivulet beneath thee,

وَهُزِّىۡۤ اِلَيۡكِ بِجِذۡعِ النَّخۡلَةِ تُسٰقِطۡ عَلَيۡكِ رُطَبًا جَنِيًّا ۝٢٥

19:25And shake the trunk of the palm-tree toward thee, thou wilt cause ripe dates to fall upon thee.
